Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Regulatory and External Affairs Manager to join GTCL’s team, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and advancing our public affairs strategy. This role involves strategic oversight, risk management, and leadership to align business operations with legal and regulatory requirements while enhancing GTCL’s reputation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and execute strategies to meet regulatory, governmental, and policy standards.
  • Assess new or updated laws, regulations, and guidelines, advising on their implications and mitigation strategies.
  • Proactively identify and manage risks associated with regulatory decisions, providing guidance to senior leadership.
  • Promote internal awareness of relevant regulatory requirements across the organization.
  • Respond to regulator inquiries, inspections, and audits with timely and accurate analyses.
  • Collaborate with the LEA Director and Head of Regulatory and Dispute Resolution to define strategic priorities for regulation, policy, and public affairs.
  • Develop and implement a proactive public affairs plan with targeted campaigns.
  • Oversee the Annual PCR process, ensuring full closure of all identified remedial actions.
  • Uphold complete adherence to GTCL’s Code of Conduct throughout the organization.
  • Monitor operational and procedural performance to enhance GTCL’s reputation, reduce legal risks, and foster collaboration with other business units.
  • Ensure compliance with GTCL’s legal policies and applicable laws to minimize legal, regulatory, and reputational risks.
  • Lead and inspire the regulatory and external affairs team by setting clear performance targets and objectives.
  • Oversee internal investigations related to compliance matters.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Head of Regulatory and Dispute Resolution for senior management and the Director of External Affairs and Legal.
  • Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support business objectives.

Required Skills and Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and legal frameworks.
  • Expertise in public policy development and strategic positioning.
  • Awareness of external environments and government operations.
  • Familiarity with privacy and competition laws.
  • Proven ability to formulate public affairs strategies to influence policy shifts.
  • Experience in regulatory roles within network industries.
  • Background in African market regulations.
  • Experience working in multinational organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in leading teams to achieve key performance indicators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Law (LLB), or a related discipline.
  • In-depth understanding of the telecommunications industry.
